Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
An important political figure commented the vandalism made him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
